Today, Sept. 14, the City of Oakland began a construction project to improve safety for people who bicycle and walk on Broadway between Keith Avenue and Brookside Avenue. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed in March 2017.
Until then, Patton Street underneath the freeway and southbound Broadway between Keith Avenue and Brookside Lane is closed to vehicular traffic (all sidewalks will remain open during construction). During this period, families who drive to Chabot Elementary School, either from the neighborhoods on the other side of Broadway or from SR 24, will need to adjust their route, as described below. Please allow extra time to reach and leave the school during this period as there will be increased traffic in the area.
