Chabot has a wonderful and varied music program. Music lets children use their bodies and senses, and helps children learn. When children perform a piece together, they make wonderful music while they learn to concentrate and to work together. Chabot’s music performances are joyful community events; you can almost see the children develop poise and confidence before your eyes and ears.
The regular music curriculum includes vocal music for kindergarten and first and second grade, and percussion for third through fifth graders. These programs, which run for 15 weeks of the school year, are paid for entirely from funds raised by the PTA. In addition, fourth and fifth graders have the opportunity to participate in the Oakland Unified School District’s instrumental music program. Each program is presented by highly qualified musicians and educators, who work with classroom teachers to make music an integral part of the learning experience.

Chabot students can also participate in after-school music programs, including chorus and jazz workshop.
